Kwek kwek is made of boiled egg covered with crunchy red stuff. Kwek kwek has lots of variation. It could be made of balut (duck egg), penoy (egg with chicken embryo but did not turn to chicken) or quail egg. Forget the nutrional value and satisfy your hunger.
Here is my recipe:
1 cup wheat flour (not corn flour or any other else)
1/2 cup water
1 fresh egg
salt and pepper
pinch of red food color powder (available in Spinneys) - you can cook without this but if you want to look them tempting, then add it.
1 teaspoon baking powder (available in Spinneys)
8 boiled eggs
cooking oil
Steps:
1. Boil 8 eggs. Set aside.
2. Mix flour, fresh egg, baking powder, and water.
3. Add salt and pepper according to taste.
4. Pour a small pinch of red food color.
5. Mix well.
6. Add 8 boiled eggs to the mixture.
7.Cover the eggs with the mixture.
8. In a frying pan with hot cooking oil, put eggs one by one.
9. Cook until mixture is crunchy.
Best served with vinegar, garlic, chili and salt mixture.
